2006 was a pretty rough year for my sophomore effort at running in a racing series. I seemed to constantly have something wrong going on with my car. In the beginning of the year the car had gear shifting issues and had to have the transmission opened up multiple times. Also throughout the year we couldn't get the car to handle the way we wanted it. There were also a lot of little things that bugged the crap out of me such as the starter which would be intermittent even after replacing it twice. After my last race of the year, I let Andrie use the car for his final race to secure his first place position since his car was out of commission. He found that the front left control arm bushing was totally worn out and was dragging the wheel. Unfortunately I wasn't able to detect this problem all year. There were a few other mechanical issues that was causing the handling to be finicky. At the end of the season we added a camber kit and front mono-ball solid bushing kit which greatly improved the handling of the car. I wish I would have done those modification right after I purchased the car. Oh well, ciest la vie.
Regardless of my issues in 2006 racing, I secured 3rd place in NASA Honda Challenge Northern Californa. This year solidified what I learned last year... racing is tough and requires lots of dedication, not to mention it costs a fortune.

My friends know that my taste in music is quite eclectic. I go from super mega heavy swedish black metal all the way to weird mellow ambient stuff to bluegrass. Anyway, while coding I often listen to http://di.fm, which has a lots of new material all the time in the electronic music scene. Techno gets often repetitive, but for coding it seems to work out for me pretty well. No lyrics to get distracted by. Anyway, I just was listening to one of the stations and they had a mix called Euphorasm, by a DJ called Sly One. I listened to it today while coding and got a decent amount of work done. - Server migrated to new machine
- S2000 gets broken into in San Francisco and seats get stolen, $2000+ of damage
- Attended fight club events, injure left hand, also was filmed for National Geographic special

This actually happened about 4 months ago, but it hadn't been posted again since I lost my hard disk. Turns out, I had posted this over at corner-carvers.com so I copied it back over here.
I'm finally calm enough to write about what happened to my car this weekend. I was feeling like crap friday night due to bad alergies and was planning to stay in San Ho, but decided to go up at the last minute to have drinks with Aaron for his birthday bash. I park the S2000 on 11th and Irving, a pretty bright and well passed area in Inner Sunset. I go out drinking in Russian Hill area and come home around 2:30 am and crash on the couch. I don't get up till about noon and decide to go on a bicycle ride down the Golden Gate park all the way to the beach. When I get back I ask Aaron if he wants to go cruise a bit since the weather is still gorgeous. We walk to the car and find a huge hole in the soft top and both red leather seats gone! What a shocker. My Valentine 1 was also under the seat and that was gone. The funny thing was I had been looking for my iPod and apparently that was under teh seat too as they didn't even bother taking that! The crappiest thing about this situation is that I just took off my comprehensive insurance last month! So I'm going to be out over $2000 to get the seat and the roof replaced. These San Francisco punks need to be dealt with somehow, I almost want to set up a sting and pistol whip them. According to a lot of local S2000 people I've talked to, its been a common thing. There must be a gang of people targetting S2000 specifically for their seats. Its a huge PITA for the victim, since you can't move the car without seats! My car was parked in a wednsday street cleaning spot, so luckily I got the car moved after borrowing another seat from a nice local friend.
The bottom line, you just can't have nice things sitting around in SF. I'm planning to move up there pretty soon, but I'm gonna have to dispose both my NSX and S2000 unless I can find a good garage space. I'm pretty sure the NSX will be sold.
Oh, another rediculous thing is that they also ripped off my side marker lamps. Those are totally worthless! Motherfucking Cocksuckers... |
