Last weekend I was watching Pride Fighting Championship recorded from live TV in Japan. I rent these recordings about 1-2 weeks after they air in Japan.  Japanese fighting culture is great btw, they show MMA fights, think UFC, on regular TV and all the great fighters from around the world are national superstars.  During the fights all the fighters get lots of respect and no matter how slow the fighting becomes, the spectators don't boo.  Americans just don't understand it I guess... UFC live audiences make me sick.  Anyway, during the commercials they had an TV ad for a fiber to the home ISP.  They claimed to offer internet service up to 1Gbps!  They also advertised the pricing for 100Mbit connection for 4900 yen, which is around $44.  I realize Japan is much more compressed urban areas, but still... at least places like San Francisco should offer it.  Then again, they probably really should fix the crap asphalt roads in SF before they start worrying about super broadband.  Starting with Mission Street, which feels like its been clusterbombed by an A-10 while driving over it.
