I've been putting off getting my eyes checked whether or not I could get Lasik eye correction or not.  Last week I finally bit the bullet and went to the Laser Eye Center at Stanford.  I've been taking money out of my paycheck pre-tax into the flexible spending account this year, so I figure I had to take advantage of it this way.  I went last friday and was determined that I was a good candidate.  I was stoked, the only thing I wasn't stoked about was the cost... $5500 for both eyes! Its mega expensive, but my good friend Ken did a lot of research and recommended that they have the best equipment and good doctor.  Its my eyes, I don't wanna mess around... I decided I can handle the premium just for the extra assurance.  I went in on tuesday to get the surgery done.  I step into the office at 3PM and its all finished by 4PM.  The doctor asked if I would like to use the valium, but I opted not to... after looking back, I totally should have done it. The procedure was a bit more scary than they initially led me to believe. The doctors are so nonchalant about the whole thing until it actually happens.  The first part was the scariest... he puts this machine and suction cups your whole eye, then he slices it with some tool, then another laser machine starts to cut the top layer of your eyeball off!  Its freaky, after both eyes you are completely blind until you are led by hand to another room with the laser zapping machine.  You are layed out and your head is aligned to the laser, then you hear a zap zap zap and the smell of your own eyeball burning!  After that, he pulls the top layer of the eyeball back and squeegees the flap to make sure there are no bubbles... kinda like when you put on decals on your car.   Its been 2 days since the operation now, I can see 20/20... its pretty amazing.  I can't even imagine already how I put up with contacts and glasses.  I highly recommend lasik if you have crap vision like I did.
