As most of my close friends know, I'm an advocate of the second ammendment . You may have read some of my other rants from the past about how I was getting annoyed by California and federal laws infringing on gun ownership.  That being said, I never wanted a hand gun as it is dangerous especially since it is concealable and accidents can happen in the wrong hands.  Recently I started enjoying going to the shooting range when I've gone with a group of friends.   Its quite relaxing in some strange way.  Everytime I go, I'd have to rent a gun and also have to go with a partner as they don't rent out guns unless you arrive with someone else.  I think the logic is that they are worried people will commit suicide with the rented gun in the range.  So I finally bit the bullet (no pun intended) and got my handgun license and decided to pick one up.

I did a lot of research and experimentation with rental guns before deciding which gun to purchase.  I narrowed the choices between a Sig 229, HK USPc and HK P2000.  Within those models there are further configurations, but mainly the size and grip type and overall reputation for reliability were the main concern.  I also initially wanted to get a .40SW caliber due to its reputation for good stopping power, but since I'm new to the hobby, I figure I will go with the 9mm instead as it is a smaller caliber and cheaper ammo.   I will probably buy a .40 eventually sometime down the line.  The gun I finally decided on was the HK P2000 DA/SA 9mm.   All gun enthusiasts I talked to have commented that its a good purchase and that it would probably outlive me since HK is known for extreme reliability and durability.
