Kinda like how optimized and personalized ads were portrayed in Minority Report with Tom Cruise, I've been seeing ads on websites that target me based on my locale. Its pretty interesting technology, but something that we should remember to keep in mind. I always wondered if somehow google etc was using IP addresses or DNS reverse lookups to determine the user's location. When I'm in the Bay Area I get banner ads from dating websites lists girls wanting to %@#%* in San Francisco, but while I'm here in Hawaii, it says Honolulu instead. Somehow these companies have collected locale information based on IP. If anyone knows how someone would source this information freely, I'd be quite interested.
