I actually got up early today and was driving in my car listening to Adam Carolla with Ted Nugent as a guest. It seems the guy is an anomaly of nature for his ability to maintain the most reasonable logic even after making millions in the music industry. I had only heard a few of his comical rants about hunting and whatever in the past... but while listening to his show, it was pretty clear to me that his understanding of human nature and his recognition of the serious distortions going in modern culture regarding gun ownership and the act of hunting were inspiring to listen to. I'll try to get a copy of that podcast and post it here eventually. What he was saying generally just makes sense and he delivers his message without being a know-it-all. He goes a bit overboard on his love of hunting, but regarding freedom and the rights for an individual to protect oneself... he's spot on. I usually don't care about what musicians say, but he's definitely on my would like to party with list.
added later: During the show, the recurring theme seemed to me, from those calling and even those who host the show is that they were afraid that somebody or even themselves would use the gun to harm someone else or themselves. Ted indirectly responded by saying that some members of our society has lost discipline, common sense, sluggard and fearful. And in turn these people don't have the confidence, discipline, understanding and the ability to take responsibility for their own actions which causes them to have fear of the gun. The other guests would say "I may accidentally kill someone when I'm mad", does that mean you have no control over your actions and therefore you are not responsible? That means you are weak minded and a potential hazard to society regardless of gun ownership. If you drive a car over someone, even by accident, you are still completely responsible due to your negligence. A gun is just a tool that has been around for hundreds of years, if you are educated about its potential and its hazards, there is no excuse for accidents or discharging it out of anger. If it happens, the repercussions and punishment should be severe. If you kill someone, be mentally prepared for your own execution. To be against the 2nd amendment is to be against the basic human freedom to protect yourself and your family. Ted's homepage
