Nitzan, a good friend of mine SMSed me early last week telling me he was doing the Jim Russel karting school at Infineon Raceway in preparation for their arrive and drive racing series. I thought to myself... a perfect opportunity to get an edge over Telly and prep my mind for the SCCA SM/ITA/ITX race in 2 weeks. I called the school to get signed up, the cost was $575, a bit on the expensive side but I figured what the hell. The frustrating part on the cost, was that on the following day an acquaintance told me that I could have mentioned his name to get a 10% discount. So I called the office again and was told it was too late. Suck. So I was enrolled in the advanced karting school for Saturday March 17th 2007.
When I signed up for the school I had forgotten that that saturday was St. Patty's day AND I had a indoor soccer game the night before that started at 11:20PM! I already knew this was going to be a LOOONG weekend. I had already made some plans to party with people in San Francisco on Saturday night, so I got extra clothes packed for staying up in the city. The friday night soccer game was a bit of a disaster... I played like crap and we ended up losing the game. I got home around 1AM and couldn't fall asleep until 4AM! I had to be up by 6AM so I can drive all the way up to Infineon by 8AM. Earlier in the week, I called another buddy of mine to see if he wanted to tag along too, so we met up in SF and carpooled together the remainder of the way.
The Infineon karting track is a brand new facility that was built in the last few years... its super nice! Its a 16 turn track with a long straightaway in one of its configurations. I've always wanted to try it out since the time it was built. There was a trackday down at the big track, I believe it was a NCRC day, but I didn't have time to go down there and check it out.
